K Hall 10/22/2022...Listening to this capsule transports me back to a Fall day growing up in Alstead in the 1960's...
Multi-coloured leaves swirling around on the breeze,
A wide-eyed child full of dreams,
Spellbound by the beauty of it all. Favorite track: In The Hall.

Hymns Forgot 03:03
Trying to be spacious He closed his eyes Thought of the hurt in all the cities Was it broken Or did it bend with time? Forgot the pain had lost the pity Sailing down Never would I have come To the land devotion lost Giving power to a sun Lying to the vagrant In hymns forgot Leaves a light on Was it mine to take or yours to find? Maybe the one who chose to give it. Sailing down Never would I have come To the land devotion lost Giving power to a sun Giving power Sailing down Never would I have come To the land devotion lost Giving power to a sun Giving power to a sun Giving power

Throughline 02:14
Grabbed his coat Packed his green Heard about a through-line And he planned to reach it All the joking Has left him down And she was crazy About his laughter now Watched an ending Leave him high On the boundary Where boundaries die If you knew a problem Could start like this You’d never see the valley for the bliss Caught the closing of the light Ain’t ever a dull one For you Ryde All the outcomes they grow bold And all the indents are letting go

Oh rocking’s fine if you got the freedom I’m guessing someone put you there - in a breath as swift as tumbling down the chasm you’re riding on that’s giving me some fear. Oh racing is fine if you got the ocean as open as the drifting of the line – and it’s all coming back when you’ve the fullest hour still waiting up ahead. And don’t belong to it – finally crossing the bridge. Oh racing is fine if you got the ocean as open as the drifting of the line – and it’s all coming back when you’ve the fullest hour still waiting up ahead.

In The Hall 04:09
In the hall of the heart, you will feel the timeless torch burning through that worried doubt. Cause you are born to do your thing but the man says “come on kid, no one believes you’ll heed that vow”. But there are those who still can see, you are bright just cause you breath and someday child, you’ll meet one there. In the hall of the heart where you feel the timeless torch draw you in and leave you clear. When the night comes to pull right through you, another tangled plan, you say “I’ll find an hour to do my thing”. And the plot turns ever after, you’re gonna hear that drum and say “I don’t believe it was ever gone”… In the hall of the heart, you will feel the timeless torch burning through that worried doubt. Cause you are born to do your thing but the man says come on kid, no one believes you’ll heed that vow. But there are those, who still can see, you are bright just cause you breath and someday child, you’ll meet one there. In the hall of the heart where you feel the timeless torch draw you in and leave you clear.

about

Party of the Sun is a psychedelic folk band from New Hampshire, comprised of Ethan McBrien, Rory Hurley, and Garrett Cameron. Writing and recording in various nature-bound locations, such as a small New England sheep farm, the band has released three EPs and two full-length albums over the span of just a few years.

The follow-up to their latest Capsule I EP, released in March, Capsule II is the culmination of a string of monthly single releases from the New Hampshire-based psych-folk trio. After releasing their sophomore album Fullest Hour, the band had a moment of clarity in their approach to writing and sharing their music. Singer and songwriter Ethan McBrien explained that while the album process can be gratifying, it can have its limitations. Together the band opted to start writing new material without the restriction of being tied to any specific project or album.

The songs on Capsule II range from atmospheric reflections on Americana guitars, care-free percussion, and timeless folk melodies (“Throughline”) to ambient deconstructions of past Party of the Sun songs (“Thought I Knew // Electric Night,”). While the band experiments sonically from track to track, thematic throughlines are present across the EP. Meditations on nature and fleeting introspective thoughts bubble up throughout the tracklist, adding to its uniquely transportive quality.

The band has been sharing “journal entries” to coincide with each monthly release - providing a glimpse into the process and the imagery surrounding it. The entry for the EP’s closer “In the Hall” is below.

"We record “In the Hall” as the leaves swell green. Plant thirst is quenched by the rolling the storm - viridian light coats the hill. Thunder hums through the Brickhouse walls and shakes our memory, old spirit creeps in... We track and go with take 2.

After the rain, we walk the hazy land. Ewes graze the lower parcel and Jerseys munch on high -past the balsam firs where the boulders rest. The full moon is obscured by clouds, we wander in low light…"

Capsule II is out August 5th, 2022 on Digital Formats via Trailing Twelve.
